In our South Plainfield district office, internships run throughout the fall, spring or summer semesters for college students and during the summer for high school juniors and seniors. Although all internships in our office is unpaid, students gain invaluable work experience. The hours are flexible to accommodate students’ hectic course schedules or other work obligations, but generally run 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. during the week and a mandatory minimum of 20 hours per week.

Our interns’ responsibilities will vary depending on capability. You will be asked to answer phones, maintain our constituent tracking service, research legislation for legislative staff, prepare social media posts, draft press releases, attend meetings, community events, hearings and voting sessions and answer constituent letters on various issues before the State Legislature. As a result, ours interns learn more about the legislative process and the many other functions of a state legislative office.
